Summary:Since the introduction of the first dedicated dental laser system in 1988, the increased utilization of lasers within the dental profession has resulted in the expression of numerous concerns by national and state regulatory boards, experts within the field, and other authorities. The present article attempts to identify specific problem areas which currently confront laser use in dentistry, and proposes some possible solutions to this dilemma.
