Description
Summary:Applied economics, or at least what is operatively accepted as applied economics by journal reviewers and editors and practiced by economists in the profession, is pervasive in the top economics journals, outright dominant in journals devoted to the various variants of agricultural economics, and ubiquitous in the professional output of industry, government, and non-government organization economists, Extension faculty, and an ever-increasing majority of research/teaching faculty at public and private universities. across a wide range of scientific fields. While it is vital to the advancement of the economics profession that economic theories and quantitative methods be continually revised, advanced, and/or invented, the proportion of professional economists devoted to addressing real-world societal problems, informing real-world economic and social policies, and addressing real-world issues of long-run sustainability and economic well-being of individuals, industries, sectors, and nations is necessarily expanding demonstrably. Applied Economics is not, or at least certainly should not be considered synonymous with, Applied Econometrics.
