Summary: | During X-ray crystallographic studies of porcine pepsin, the authors have found important charge interactions in the three-dimensional structure of the enzyme. Some of them concern the groups which are near the active site, some of them induce the decrease of enzyme activity during modification. The observed charge interactions of the N-terminus are important for the understanding of the porcine pepsin activation process. The data provide the explanation of the lowest iso-electric point among proteins of porcine pepsin. |
