Summary:Myklebust's Pupil Rating Scale (PRS) was administered to the first (n = 92) and second (n = 130) grades of a middle class suburban elementary school to ascertain its effectiveness for predicting reading and arithmetic difficulties. The results of this investigation were compared with those obtained in a large pilot study (n = 98) with a similar second grade population from another school district. After obtaining overall correlations between the PRS and achievement and examining those PRS scores Myklebust found indicative of academic difficulty, it was concluded that the predictive efficiency of the PRS at these grade levels must remain suspect until sufficient countervailing evidence supporting its predictive utility is presented.
