Summary: | A total of 83 samples of walleye (Stizostedion vitreum vitreum), collected from 34 lakes in northern Wisconsin in May-June 1990 and May 1991, were analysed for mercury. The average lengths of fish and average mercury concentrations for lakes in 12 counties are summarized. Nearly half the fish sampled exceeded the state-recommended limit of 0.5 ppm mercury for human consumption. Possible factors contributing to the increased concentrations of mercury in these lakes are indicated. |
