Summary: | This case study is presented as an example of successful behavioral treatment of a depressed older man using group and conjoint therapy. The case is discussed as exemplifying two major issues in treatment of the aged: dealing with resistance to being in therapy and distinguishing between disability due to organic brain syndrome and that due to depression. It is asserted that behavior therapy provided both pragmatic guidelines for treatment and a general spirit of optimism when working with the aged. |
