Summary: | This essay reflects upon Les Curry's contribution to the development of methods for the statistical analysis of geographical data and how this work fitted with his views on the development of geographical theory. The importance that Les attached to the development of geographical theory has been remarked on in other tributes. Less attitude to what today would be termed spatial statistics or spatial data analysis seems to have been that, unless informed by theory, statistical analysis was, to quote one of his phrases, a blunt instrument (Curry, 1972a). |
