Synthesis of pentafluorobenzoic anhydride: a superior derivatizing agent for lipids

Two alternative methods for preparation of pentafluorobenzoyl anhydride are described, and preliminary results on the use of this reagent for direct derivatization of the potent phospholipid autacoid, platelet-activating factor are presented.
