Description
Summary:A case study focused on the use of anthropomedtric measures for malnutrition prevention by identifying that portion of the population that was at greatest malnutrition risk. Three anthropometric classifications (and a derivation of these) were used. One of these, the Gomez index (weight-for-age), was found to be the best for identifying young children at risk of malnutrition and related morbidities within populations having a pattern of malnutrition similar to the study group. The study data were obtained from a 1973 baseline study that identified epidemiological, clinical, and biochemical information on 1715 children from 626 families in 4 major ecological zones.(wz)
