Description
Summary:Depression and a reduction in the performance of pleasant activities have been reported in patients with end-stage renal disease receiving hemodialysis therapy. The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between depression and the patients' capacity to engage in physical activity. The patients' VO2max, or maximal oxygen consumption, was found to be positively associated with three standardized self-report measures of depression in a sample of 15 patients receiving hemodialysis. The clinical and theoretical implications of this finding are considered.
