Summary: | Oysters were sampled at 3 different sites along the Atlantic coast of South Carolina during the summers of 1983 and 1984. Zinc levels in oysters from Mount Pleasant, Charleston, and Beaufort were 0.48-1.56 (average 1.27), 0.32-1.57 (average 0.91), and 0.13-1.39 (average 0.62 mg per kg respectively. These concentrations were greater than those reported for other shellfish (shrimp, crab, clam, scallop, squid), but were not high enough to render the oysters unfit for human consumption. |
