Summary: | Argentine Hemorrhagic Fever (AHF), caused by Junin virus (JV), is a severe human disease which is sometimes characterized by predominantly hemorrhagic signs, while other cases are dominated by neurological manifestations. Neither the natural rodent host, Calomys , nor mice develop systemic disease resembling human AHF. Infected guinea pigs and subhuman primates do, however, show the characteristic pathology of human AHF. The authors report some results of in vivo and in vitro testing observed with human JV isolates. |
