Summary: | A study of 273 children under 5 years of age in a rural area in India examined the effects of malnutrition on the course and outcome of measles and their immunological basis. The cell-mediated immune response to PHA was low in children with measles independent of their nutritional status, indicating an effect of measles on immune status; however, severe malnutrition did not have additional adverse effects. The results indicate that malnutrition itself may not affect the course and outcome of measles.(wz) |
