Summary: | Conventionally, stones in the kidney and ureter have been treated either surgically or medically. New techniques for the removal of stones, less invasive than surgery, and apparently at least as successful, have become available. At least one of these new techniques (extra corporeal shock wave lithotripsy) recently reported' would require capital expenditure of over £1000000 for each unit purchased.
