Description
Summary:Trospectromycin is an aminocyclitol antimicrobial with demonstrated activity against Gram-positive cocci, certain Gram-negative bacilli, anaerobic bacteria, Mycoplasma and Ureaplasma species. Because most of the isolates evaluated in these studies were obtained from a variety of clinical sources including non-sterile secretions, we studied the spectrum of activity of trospectromycin against Gram-positive cocci from blood cultures compared with seven other antimicrobials used to treat infections caused by these organisms. All 323 bacterial strains were obtained from blood cultures of patients at one of three teaching hospitals: The Veterans Administration Medical Center and Erie County Medical Center in Buffalo, New York, and the Henderson General Division of the Hamilton Civic Hospitals in Hamilton Ontario.
