Summary:A patient with an implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD) experienced an inappropriate firing while in close proximity to an electronic article surveillance (EAS) device. Testing revealed the ICD was able to detect high frequency “noise” when close to the EAS device. ICD patients may need counseling to avoid close contact with such devices.
