Description
Summary:This paper describes the background, standing and current content of proposed standards covering elements of manual handling. The proposed ISO Standard covers manual handling activities per se and broadly follows technical material emanating from the USA. The proposed multi-part CEN Standard is intended to be used by machinery designers and manufacturers in conforming with the Machinery Directives — implemented in the UK as the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 1992. All standards are currently being written and have still to progress through a long sequence of consultation, and are consequently open to redrafting. Their ultimate appearance is far from assured.
