Parasite-Specific Isotype and Subclass Antibody Profiles during Acute Prepatent Human Schistosomiasis
Increases in anti-schistosomal IgM above IgG Ab levels were observed in recently infected schistosomiasis patients. Several studies have reported on the levels and biological role of IgG subclasses during schistosomiasis. Moreover, Evengard et al. (1990) described the early serum Ab responses of six...

Summary: | Increases in anti-schistosomal IgM above IgG Ab levels were observed in recently infected schistosomiasis patients. Several studies have reported on the levels and biological role of IgG subclasses during schistosomiasis. Moreover, Evengard et al. (1990) described the early serum Ab responses of six Swedish patients, 6-60 weeks after exposure and Praziquantel treatment. To our knowledge, the present communication describes the first study documenting the humoral responses during human Schistosoma mansoni infection prior to detection of eggs in the feces (prepatent period). |
