Description
Summary:Pheochromocytomas are tumors that arise from chromaffin cells of the central nervous system. Tumors in tissues adjacent to the spine are common, usually lying along the sympathetic chain or para-aortic lymph nodes. Actual involvement of the bony architecture of the cervical, thoracic, and lumbar vertebrae is not commonly reported. The purpose of this case report is to point out that such occurrences, though uncommon, must nevertheless be recognized and treated appropriately, with careful attention being paid to pre-operative and anesthetic management.
