Summary: | Large populations of caribou Rangifer tarandus are widely distributed across northern Canada and in the northern regions of Scandinavia and Russia. Genetic analysis of caribou populations using microsatellites will be useful in addressing a number of population issues in this species, including the amount of genetic variation within and between populations, gene flow and herd identity. For this purpose, 13 microsatellites were isolated from caribou. |
