Description
Summary:The ductus venosus involutes rapidly after birth. Reports of persistence of the ductus venosus beyond the neonatal period are rare. A case of persistent patency of the ductus venosus detected by ultra-sonography with Doppler interrogation in an infant with perinatal liver failure and subsequent cirrhosis is presented. Rapid flow within the ductus venosus was indicative of portosystemic shunting due to portal hypertension.
