Description
Summary:Multiple myeloma usually is characterized by the development of lytic bone lesions. Osteosclerotic myeloma is a rare entity characterized by a single or multiple osteosclerotic bone lesions and often accompanied by a demyelinating polyneuropathy. Multiple myeloma associated with widespread osteosclerotic lesions seen on radiographic studies is exceedingly rare. We describe 3 such cases and review 12 other cases described in the literature. Overall, the patients described herein had a clinical course that resembled multiple myeloma more than osteosclerotic myeloma. However, some patients had features of both diseases. Although rare, multiple myeloma should be included in the differential diagnosis of widespread osteosclerotic bone lesions. Am. J. Hematol. 56:288–293, 1997. © 1997 Wiley‐Liss, Inc.
