Description
Summary:HPr of Gram-positive bacteria not only serves a catalytic function as phospho carrier protein within the PTS, but is also involved in the regulation of the uptake of PTS sugars and appears to be important to the regulation of uptake of glycerol in certain bacteria. Astonishing is the number of enzymes, with which this small protein of approximately 10 kDa can interact. HPr not only interacts with enzyme I and with the different enzymes II or enzymes III of the PTS, but also with the ATP-dependent HPr kinase, with the P-ser-HPr phosphatase, and with DHA/glycerol kinase.
