Summary: | Hypopituitarism caused by necrosis of the physiologically enlarged pituitary gland of pregnancy following postpartum haemorrhage was first described by Sheehan (1). Although manifestations of the clinical syndrome are most often caused by deficiencies of hormones of the anterior pituitary gland, involvement of the posterior lobe of the pituitary gland although rare has been described (2,3). This is a report of a case of diabetes insipidus developing within 24 hours postpartum in a grand multipara who had an elective lower segment Caesarean section for twins. |
