Summary: | A healthy 18-year-old farmer splashed a solution of the biological insecticide Dipel)(Bacillus thuringiensis ; Abbott Laboratories, North Chicago, Ill) i n his right eye. While being treated with antibiotic and steroid ointments, a corneal ulcer developed. The authors saw the patient 10 days after the accident and injected 20 mg of gentamicin and 25 mg of cephazolin subconjunctivally in the right eye. The ulcer was treated with topical gentamicin ointment and healed within 2 weeks. It is believed that this case of a corneal ulcer is the first reported occurrence of an infectious disease in a human caused by B. thuringiensis . |
