Summary: | A retrospective study of 102 Swiss seniors was conducted in Bern-Bümpliz to determine non-medical factors affecting substantial care days required prior to death. Protected senior housing and an independent and helpful personality seemed to contribute significantly to compression of morbidity and to reduced need for long-term institutional care. For 56 members of this population, an average of 54 days of substantial care prior to death was recorded. For the remaining 46, average substantial care days required was 911. |
