Description
Summary:Christopher, S., T. J. John (Christian Medical College and Hospital, Vellore, Tamil Nadu, India) and R. A. Feldman. Virus infections of bonnet monkeys. Amer J Epidem 94:608–61 1, 1971.—Virus infections of bonnet monkeys (Macaca radiate) were studied both by serologic methods and by the detection of latent viruses in kidney cell cultures. About 6–12% of monkeys had antibodies to Herpesvirus simiae. Antibodies to simian viruses 5 and 40 were tested in 83 sera and all were negative. Foamy virus CPE was detected in less than 10% of 359 batches of monkey kidney cell cultures and it occurred during August to April but not during May to July in the five years of observation. In the 359 batches examined for other latent viruses only one showed the presence of a reovirus. Hemadsorbing viruses were not detected in any cultures.
