T-Mycoplasmas from Urine and Vaginal Specimens: Decreased Rates of Isolation and Growth in the Presence of Thallium Acetate

There is disagreement in the literature regarding the effect of the bacteriostatic agent, thallium acetate, on the isolation of T-mycoplasmas from clinical material. Therefore, the effect of 0.1 %, 0.05 %, 0.025 %, and 0.02% thallium acetate on the isolation of T-mycoplasmas from vaginal and urine c...

Description
Summary:There is disagreement in the literature regarding the effect of the bacteriostatic agent, thallium acetate, on the isolation of T-mycoplasmas from clinical material. Therefore, the effect of 0.1 %, 0.05 %, 0.025 %, and 0.02% thallium acetate on the isolation of T-mycoplasmas from vaginal and urine cultures was tested. All concentrations tested retarded the growth of T-mycoplasmas and reduced the total number of isolations.
