Description
Summary:Lefèbvre, N., (Institut Pasteur du Brabant, 1040-Brussels, Belgium), S. Sprecher-Goldberger, L. Thiry, D. Dekegel, R. Hooghe and R. Lorenzo. Specific associations between complement-fixing antibodies to herpes-viruses and those to some serotypes of adenovirus-associated viruses. Am J Epidemiol 95: 557–564, 1972.—Complement-fixing (CF) antibodies to cytomegalovirus (CMV) were more frequent in individuals possessing CF antibodies to adenovirus-associated viruses type 1 or type 3 (AAV1 or AAV3) than in individuals without these antibodies. A similar association did not exist between CMV antibodies and AAV2 antibodies. CF antibodies to adenoviruses were not associated with AAV1 antibodies and a significant association was only found between adenoviruses and AAV2 antibodies in a group of tumor patients. Similarly, only this group of patients showed an association of CF antibodies to herpes simplex virus with those to AAV3. The results suggest that infections with adenoviruses or herpesviruses may occur or reoccur in specific combinations with some serotypes of AAV, and that at least some of these combined infections or recurrences are favored in patients hospitalized with one of the frequent types of cancer.
