Summary:Herpesvirus ateles, a latent virus carried by spider monkeys, was inoculated into 12 cotton-topped marmosets. All of these marmosets died of malignant lymphoma, lymphoblastic type. Leukemia developed in 11 of these animals. Of 4 contact control marmosets, 1 also developed malignant lymphoma and leukemia, which indicated horizontal transmission.
