Summary: | SUMMARY The article discusses ways of exploring social work students' expectations of professional training and the implications of these for social work education. Bernstein's theory of the classification and framing of knowledge is taken as a reference point for discussion in conjunction with some information gathered from social work students about their views on the aims of professional training. It is concluded that social work education has to be concerned not only with producing a curriculum relevant to social work activity, but needs also to acknowledge the specifically educational difficulties involved in professional training. |
