Summary: | The influence of input power on the sprayed powder and final coatings was quantified for a water-stabilised plasma spray torch (WSP) and ceramic coatings formed from TiO2. All other spray setup parameters were secured during the experiment with the electric supply power as the only variable factor. In-flight particles were characterised by Doppler particle velocimetry, the microstructure of the coatings was observed by microscopy, and phase composition was studied by XRD. Various mechanical properties were measured - microhardness, surface roughness, and wear resistance in a slurry. Other physical characteristics of the coatings - reflectivity and bandgap energy - were observed for their dependence on the supply power. The higher the power the higher the coating quality, both its microstructure and mechanical performance. This difference was the same for both power supplies used for the testing. |
