Summary: | In an introductory essay by the newly appointed editor-in-chief of the Society, it is asserted that the journal's goal is to provide a forum in which professional social scientists can publish their expertise in a manner accessible to lay readers. The journal aims to celebrate the common heritage of professional social science, which rests on four norms: universalism, which promotes the acceptance of other human groups; communism, which entails agreement on social-scientific ideas; disinterestedness, which involves a lack of bias; & organized skepticism with regard to the purpose of social-scientific knowledge in different institutional spheres. Together, these four norms form the ethos of social science. M. Cella |
