Summary:ABSTRACT IN FRENCH: Venus dans les villes françaises dès les années 1970, les marabouts ouest-africains y ont trouvé un cadre propice aux pratiques de divination et de recours contre l'infortune qui étaient les leurs dans les villes africaines. La plupart d'entre eux ont tenté de faire de cette activité leur gagne-pain, en touchant parfois très volontairement une clientèle multiculturelle. L'objet de cet article est d'analyser le champ des compétences qui leur sont prêtées à Paris et l'évolution des schémas explicatifs du malheur qu'ils proposent à leurs consultants. À côté de leur rôle de devin et d'intercesseur, c'est celui d'écouteur et de conseiller qui apparaît de plus en plus nettement. // ABSTRACT IN ENGLISH: The first marabouts immigrated to the french cities in the seventies, coming from West-Africa. In this new environment they found a favourable context for the divinatory practices and the providing of remedies against misfortune that they already carried out in african cities. Most of them tried to make this activity into a job and reached deliberately clients of all origins. The purpose of this article is to examine the extent of their interventions in Paris and the modifications in the interpretations of misfortune that they propose to their clients in this cross-cultural context. Beside their role of prophets and of specialists interceding with Allah and the jinns, the role of listener and counsellor that they also assume is becoming more and more obvious.
