Description
Summary:The biological and immunoserological properties of crude and purified hemolysin obtained from culture superna-tants of an El Tor vibrio were studied. The hemolysin appears to be an antigenic substance separate from mouse lethal toxin, proteinase, lecithinase, neuraminidase and mucinase. A variable proportion complexing between hemolysin and dermonecrotic toxin has been suggested. The purified hemolysin induces the formation of precipitating antibody which neutralizes its hemolytic activity but is not protective in mice or vibriocidal against homologous organisms.
