Summary: | At the Mayo Clinic a study was made of the anaerobic glycolysis of leukocytes obtained from bone marrow of 8 normal individuals and 16 patients with acute leukemias plus leukocytes from the peripheral blood of 8 normal donors. Normal leukocytes from bone marrow had significantly lower glycolytic rates than those from peripheral blood. Bone‐marrow leukocytes from patients with untreated myelomonocytic leukemia had significantly greater rates than normal bone‐marrow leukocytes. The inhibitory effect of methyl‐glyoxal‐bis‐guanyl‐hydrazone dihydrochloride on the anaerobic glycolysis of leukocytes appeared to be similar whether the cells were obtained from normal individuals or from patients with acute leukemia. |
