Summary: | An undifferentiated C3H plasma cell neoplasm 70429, carried in specifically parous BALB/c mice, was the source tissue of this leukemia virus. Studies were carried out in an effort to determine the most effective route of inoculation, and the age, strain, and species specificities. The results indicated that the intracerebral route was most effective in terms of latent period and incidence. The virus produced approximately the same generalized neoplasm in all host systems studied and was thus not age, strain, or species specific. Virus was recovered from the leukemic tissues of mice by procedures involving high-speed centrifugation alone or in combination with filtration, and from the plasma of infected rats. All tumors induced by this virus were antigenic to various degrees in the strain of origin, and of those tested, all shared a common antigenicity. |
