Summary: | Investigated whether the hostile content in fantasy is reduced by vicarious participation in overt hostility. Hostility and anxiety scores derived from 3 groups of 200 new national service recruits in Israel were used. Ss were tested a yr. before the Arab-Israel 6-Day War, immediately following the war, and a yr. after the war. Results show that all indexes of fantasy hostility were lower immediately after the war than in either the previous or following yr. Reduction of hostile content of fantasy may have occurred as a result of vicarious participation in the hostility. No parallel reduction occurred in the anxiety index. |
