Summary: | In the terminal stages of erythroblastosis the clearance is reduced of some substances in the plasma that are normally removed by the liver and spleen. The plasma volume is increased, possibly because of the accumulation of hemoglobin and other products of cell breakdown. The erythrocyte volume remains unchanged. Reduced clearance of haptoglobin-bound hemoglobin must contribute to the hemoglobinemia present in birds with erythroblastosis. |
