Influence of the Growth Medium on the Proteinase System of Streptococcus lactis No. 3

The influence of the nitrogen source on the activity of the membrane and intracelluar proteinase of Streptococcus lactis No. 3 was examined. Data support the hypothesis that the membrane proteinase degrades proteins only to peptides, while the intracellular enzyme hydrolyzes peptides to amino acids.
