Description
Summary:THE increased output of hydroxyproline peptides in the urine of patients with osteomalacia 1 has been found to increase still further when the rickets are cured with phosphate 2 . Studies using 14 C-proline indicate that the hydroxyproline in the urine of growing rats is derived both from recently synthesized soluble collagen and from the catabolism of the mature insoluble collagen fibres 3 . The experiments reported here were designed to discover whether the increased excretion of hydroxyproline in healing rickets comes from the synthesis of new collagen.
