Quantitation of Enamel Demineralization Mechanisms II: Correlation of Synthetic Hydroxyapatite Initial Demineralization Rates in Acetate Buffer with Powdered Enamel

The initial demineralization rates of several synthetic hydroxyapatite samples and of powdered enamel in acetate buffers over a wide range of pH and buffer concentrations have been investigated. The results have been compared with the previously derived theory. Both the synthetic mineral results and...

Description
Summary:The initial demineralization rates of several synthetic hydroxyapatite samples and of powdered enamel in acetate buffers over a wide range of pH and buffer concentrations have been investigated. The results have been compared with the previously derived theory. Both the synthetic mineral results and the powdered enamel data compare well with theory. These findings provide considerable support to the idea that simultaneous theoretical studies and experimental studies with enamel and with synthetic minerals will lead to a clear understanding of many enamel reaction mechanisms.
