Summary: | Described are exercises for making the transition from the aural /oral to the reading stage. The basic technique consists of combining familiar items & structures in as many new ways as possible. Drill-type exercises are presented & it is shown that they contain implicit remarks on contrastive Portuguese/Eng phonology & morphology. It is argued that the techniques used are virtually the same as those used for reading acquisition in the mother tongue. A. Orianne |
