Description
Summary:In recent years, the history of linguistics has received much and very welcome attention from scholars. In this article, an attempt has been made to give a general overview of what is known of this part of the intellectual life of early Ireland, from the earliest time to the end of the mediaeval period; although Latin sources naturally are mentioned where needed, the emphasis is on presenting those in the native language, which are less accessible to others than Celticists.
