Description
Summary:Observations--some naturalistic, & some involving simple experiments with colored cards, etc.--on the development of the use of color terms by a child between the ages of 1:0 & 2:0 suggest that: (1) the order in which colors are correctly named is closely related to the order postulated by Berlin & Kay for the evolution of color terminologies (see LLBA V/4, p. 2443), & (2) although the meanings of some terms are acquired on a feature-by-feature basis, other terms pursue a more tortuous developmental path.
