Description
Summary:An attempt is made to describe the fundamentals of reader response theory, to focus on aspects most relevant to reading instruction on the secondary & college level, & to present a method of teaching using reader response as a vehicle for improving student ability to learn from text. Theory suggests that all readers read differently, that textual meaning is not static nor tangible, & that examining readers' responses to text is more valid than establishing one "correct" interpretation of text meaning. Instructional suggestions emphasize a five-step process: identifying, structuring, expressing, analyzing, & evaluating. Specific examples of reader response from theory to practice are given. 4 Tables, 2 Figures, 23 References. AA
