Summary: | Alan Kaye's review of Yngve's Linguistics as a Science (Bloomington: Indiana U Press, 1986) entitled "Review of Yngve (1986)" (see listing in IRPL 25/2, 90r01685) is discussed. A point of difference is raised regarding the question of which side in a scientific dispute must bear the burden of proof. Ways in which false ideas & assumptions can be addressed & rooted out are considered. It is argued that the book was intended as a plea for linguists to take their role as scientists seriously. 4 References. B. Annesser Murray |
