Summary: | Neologisms with the Greek confix cyber & suffix hyper attested in online French dictionaries of computer sciences & glossaries published in issues 53 (1997), 54 (1997), 56 (1998), & 58 (1999) of La Banque des mots (Word Bank), a journal of the Conseil International de la Langue Francaise (International Counsel of the French Language), are analyzed using Andre Martinet's concept of syntheme, introduced in Elements de linguistique generale ([Elements of General Linguistics] 1960). It is concluded that products & uses of computer technology revitalized word formations with cyber & hyper, & most of these neologisms in French are calqued from English.
