Summary: | Reading instruction is discussed with focus on teacher responses to unusual comments made by students regarding literary texts. A two-leveled approach to fielding these types of student responses is delineated: (1) prepare students to perceive reading comprehension as "making meaning," & (2) support students in taking responsibility for their actions as meaning makers.
