Description
Summary:If I Want to Whistle, I Whistle, the first feature film directed by Florin Serban, takes up many Romanian New Wave stylistics-attention to detail, extended long takes-but it is also more dynamic than many New Wave films in terms of style and narrative. Set almost entirely in a juvenile prison, If I Want to Whistle charts an inmate's last days of incarceration and the mounting pressures which cause him to explode just when his freedom is in sight. Serban shows us the layers of pressure-violence from the guards and fellow inmates, his mother's abandonment, his inability to convince the system to release him a few days early-which build up so much force that a simple altercation sets him off.\n The words had to come from the character and from George.
